The mystery buyer of the $21.5 million triplex penthouse at 108 Leonard in Tribeca has been identified as Alexandra Clancy, widow of thriller novelist Tom Clancy, whose works such as The Hunt for Red October and Patriot Games defined the techno-spy genre. Represented by Dora Abril of Douglas Elliman, Clancy secured the “Crown Penthouse” at a hefty discount from its 2022 price tag of roughly $24.5 million. Developer Elad Group restored the 19th-century Clock Tower—originally designed by Griffith Thomas and later expanded by McKim, Mead & White—into luxury condos with interiors by Jeffrey Beers International.
Occupying the top three floors of the landmarked Italian Renaissance Revival building, the light-filled residence spans about 6,200 square feet and includes five bedrooms, seven baths, chevron-patterned oak floors, and 15-foot ceilings. A private elevator and staircase link the levels, while three terraces totaling 2,200 square feet frame views of City Hall, the East River, and multiple iconic bridges. Residents also enjoy a valet motor court, a 20,000-square-foot wellness center with a 75-foot lap pool, and rooftop gardens—perks that carry a monthly maintenance fee of $10,427.

The main level centers on a 1,000-square-foot great room with a marble fireplace; nearby, an eat-in kitchen features Scavolini cabinetry, a marble waterfall island, Miele appliances, and a 100-bottle wine fridge. A wet-bar lounge, media room, and a full-floor primary suite—complete with fireside seating, mini-kitchenette, dual walk-in closets, and dual baths—round out the layout.
Alexandra Clancy, a former TV reporter and daughter of Harlem entrepreneur J. Bruce Llewellyn, married Tom Clancy in 1999 and became embroiled in legal disputes over his estimated $83 million estate after his death in 2013. Among the late author’s holdings were partial stakes in the Baltimore Orioles, royalties tied to his Jack Ryan franchise, and a 400-acre Chesapeake Bay retreat that she sold in 2020 for nearly $5 million—well below its $6.2 million asking price.
The new penthouse joins a roster of high-profile residents who have called 108 Leonard home, including music executive Clive Davis and actors Nicole Kidman and Keith Urban. For Alexandra Clancy, the triplex offers an elevated perch in Lower Manhattan, capping a real-estate journey that has ranged from Chesapeake Bay acreage to the heart of New York’s skyline.
