United Airlines announced a partnership with Elon Musk’s SpaceX to provide free inflight Wi-Fi on hundreds of its jetliners using the Starlink satellite service. This move is part of a broader trend among airlines to enhance onboard connectivity and attract business travelers.

Starlink Internet 1
SpaceX’s Starlink utilizes its network of over 6,000 satellites that provides high-speed internet at even the most remote places.

Other carriers, including Delta, Hawaiian Airlines, and JetBlue, have already introduced free Wi-Fi. United, which currently charges for inflight internet from various providers like ViaSat and Panasonic, will phase in Starlink across its fleet over the next few years, starting early next year with “gate-to-gate” connectivity.

SpaceX’s Starlink network, which began in 2020, has around 6,000 satellites and serves over 3 million customers worldwide, offering internet access even in remote and hard-to-reach locations. United is betting on this enhanced service to boost its competitive edge, especially on transoceanic routes where connectivity can be challenging.
