Hydefy has launched a fungi-based textile in collaboration with Stella McCartney, offering a sustainable leather alternative that emphasizes both durability and style. Developed through NASA-backed research in Yellowstone and made using fungi and sugarcane waste, the material marks a significant step forward in cruelty-free, high-performance fabrics.

Stella McCartney unveiled the innovation through the Stella Ryder handbag, which debuted at the Spring/Summer 2025 show and is now available for pre-order. A longtime advocate for sustainable fashion, McCartney praised Hydefy’s creators for their forward-thinking approach to regenerative materials.

Hydefy’s textile, now available for broader commercial use, is positioned for fashion, automotive, and interior applications. The Fynder Group, Hydefy’s parent company, has already leveraged its fungi-based input—trademarked as Fy™—in food through Nature’s Fynd, producing meatless breakfast patties and fungi-based yogurts.

CEO Thomas Jonas called the collaboration a clear example of innovation meeting the demands of luxury fashion. “Hydefy isn’t just another alternative—it’s the future of high-performance textiles,” he said.
