France, known for its charming villages, glamorous seaside towns, and historical cities, is set to become the most visited country by 2025 with 93.7 million international travelers annually, according to a GlobalData report. However, its reign may be short-lived.

A joint report by Google and Deloitte, titled NextGen Travelers and Destinations, predicts that by 2040, Spain will surpass France, attracting 110 million tourists annually, followed by France with 105 million, and the United States with 100 million.

Spain’s appeal is clear with its family-friendly hotels, beaches, and diverse culinary scene for foodies. The country enjoys an average of 300 sunny days per year, making it a favorite for Brits seeking affordable, short-haul vacations.

In 2023, Spain welcomed 84 million visitors, with a record-breaking 6.3 million international tourists in March alone, according to the National Statistics Institute (INE). Tourist spending in March also reached nearly €8.65 billion, a 29.7% increase from the previous year.

Currently, France remains the most-visited country. Hannah Free, Travel & Tourism Analyst at GlobalData, notes that France, along with Italy and Spain, significantly contributes to Western Europe’s tourism growth. France attracts travelers from the UK, Germany, Belgium, China, and the United States, making it a top Western European destination for US travelers.
