About five years ago, while living in the Hollywood Hills, music executive Dan Hubbert started picturing a different life—one rooted in open space, privacy, and nature. That vision led him and his then-fiancée Rebecca to Central California’s Santa Ynez Valley, a quiet expanse about 40 minutes from Santa Barbara. They found their dream ranch nestled on a secluded mesa, surrounded by olive trees and sweeping views. After buying the property for just under $2.4 million and giving it a meticulous overhaul, the couple is now listing it for close to $10 million.
Hubbert, now CEO of Power Music, and his wife transformed the estate into a contemporary retreat with high-end design and thoughtful amenities. Represented by Carl Gambino and John Bercsi of The Gambino Group at Compass, the property blends rustic serenity with luxury functionality.
Located in the gated Rancho Estates community, the six-plus-acre estate centers around a modernized mid-1960s ranch home with over 4,200 square feet of living space. The main house includes three bedrooms and four bathrooms, vaulted cedar ceilings, multiple fireplaces, and a mix of brass, copper, and raked concrete details. Floor-to-ceiling windows frame uninterrupted views of the Los Padres National Forest and the mountains beyond.
Behind a steel-framed entry, the interior opens to a great room that features an asymmetrical copper-clad fireplace and an Italian marble bar with wine storage. A nearby dining area flows into a kitchen equipped with burnt-orange cabinetry, open shelving, a casual eat-in island, and appliances from Wolf and Miele. The home also includes a deep green den and a primary suite complete with its own fireplace, a spa-style bathroom with a freestanding soaking tub, a walk-in glass shower, and a large closet.
The exterior grounds are filled with curated natural beauty. A fire pit and BBQ station create a social hub near the circular infinity pool and inlaid spa. Surrounding the home are fruit trees, berry bushes, grape vines, and a working olive grove that recently produced 55 drums of extra virgin olive oil. Other amenities include a chicken coop, a bee house, and a spacious workshop.
Separate from the main home is a guesthouse offering a bedroom with en suite bath, a kitchenette, a gym, and a separate office. Technological comforts like a private fiber-optic internet line and a Control4 smart-home system make remote living seamless, while an attached two-car garage and plans for a future entertainment barn round out the offering.
The decision to sell wasn’t an easy one. Hubbert shared that the passing of his wife’s mother prompted a shift in priorities. “Since we’re both originally from Connecticut, and still have family there—my mom and siblings, and her dad—we’ve made the tough decision to return East to be closer to them,” he explained. “We absolutely adore the Santa Ynez Valley. Our view is arguably the best in the valley. At night we fall asleep to the sounds of owls and coyotes, and wake to birdsong and clucking hens. It’s easily one of the most breathtaking places on Earth.”
