A record-breaking 65 million viewers streamed two NFL games on Netflix this Christmas Day, making them the most-watched NFL games in U.S. streaming history, according to Nielsen data released by the NFL and Netflix.

The Kansas City Chiefs vs. Pittsburgh Steelers matchup averaged 24.1 million viewers, while the Baltimore Ravens’ win over the Houston Texans slightly outperformed with 24.3 million viewers. The Ravens-Texans game saw a surge during Beyoncé’s halftime show, dubbed the “Beyoncé Bowl,” drawing over 27 million viewers, according to a Netflix statement.

“This was a historic day for the NFL, with fans in all 50 states and over 200 countries tuning in to see some of the league’s top stars and an unforgettable performance by Beyoncé,” said Hans Schroeder, the NFL’s executive vice president of media distribution, in the Netflix statement.

While the Christmas games shattered NFL streaming records, they fell short of Netflix’s recent sporting milestone: last month’s Mike Tyson vs. Jake Paul fight, which drew over 60 million viewers globally.

Compared to the NFL’s largest annual event, the Super Bowl, the Christmas games also lagged. Last season’s Super Bowl between the Kansas City Chiefs and the San Francisco 49ers reached 123.4 million viewers across multiple platforms, including CBS and streaming services like NFL+ and Paramount+ (CBS reported it as the most-watched telecast in history).

The NFL’s Christmas collaboration with Netflix highlights the growing popularity of streaming platforms for live sports, further expanding the league’s global reach.
