The Venice Simplon-Orient Express, a Belmond Train, has revealed the interior of its new sleeper carriage, L’Observatoire, designed by artist JR. Set to launch in March 2025, the carriage will be the largest on the train, featuring a grand bedroom, freestanding bathtub, private dining lounge, and even a secret tea lounge.

JR aimed to blend the train’s historic charm with his artistic vision, crafting a timeless work of art. Described as an “artwork in motion,” the carriage features hidden details and handpicked objet d’arts that evoke curiosity. JR collaborated with longtime Venice Simplon-Orient Express partner Atelier Philippe Allemand to design intricate marquetry, including a cityscape that depicts JR on a rooftop.
