Lamborghini isn’t walking away from internal combustion engines just yet. In fact, the Italian marque plans to keep building traditional gas-powered supercars for the foreseeable future, according to chief technical officer Rouven Mohr. Speaking to Australia’s CarExpert, Mohr emphasized that combustion power still plays a central role in the brand’s DNA and will continue to do so for “as long as possible.”
Mohr explained that Lamborghini’s commitment to ICE technology goes beyond nostalgia. “If you speak about the future of combustion for sure, for us, we are aiming to continue as long as possible,” he told the outlet. “This is clear not because—you know, sometimes some colleagues say, ‘ah, it’s not so much about the old world’—[but because] we still think that we have a lot of ideas to transport, let me say, the combustion future.”

Even as the industry pivots to electrification, Lamborghini is actively looking for ways to retain the visceral power and emotion tied to combustion engines. That doesn’t mean the company is abandoning progress. Later this year, the Huracán’s successor—the Temerario—will debut as a hybrid, marking a significant milestone: the brand’s entire lineup will be electrified in some form.
That includes the hybrid-assisted Urus SE SUV and the brand’s latest supercar, both of which run on 4.0-liter twin-turbocharged V-8 engines paired with electric systems. While different in their configurations, the Urus SE cranks out 789 horsepower and 701 lb-ft of torque, while the supercar delivers 907 hp and 590 lb-ft. Then there’s the flagship Revuelto, which fuses a naturally aspirated 6.5-liter V-12 with three electric motors, producing a combined 1,001 horsepower and 793 lb-ft of torque.
Despite this push toward hybridization, the future still holds a fully electric Lamborghini. The Lanzador concept, first shown in 2023, previews what could be the brand’s first EV—a sleek 2+2 grand tourer. Originally slated for 2028, its launch has now been delayed to 2029, a move the brand says will allow time to refine the experience and make sure it feels unmistakably Lamborghini.
