Kanye West shocked the real estate world by demolishing a $53 million Malibu mansion designed by renowned architect Tadao Ando. Purchased in September 2021, the home’s value dropped by $14 million due to the destruction, reducing its market price to $39 million.

“This is going to be my bomb shelter. This is going to be my Batcave,” Ye reportedly told a laborer, as revealed in an interview with The New Yorker. Despite his ambitious plans, the mansion now stands as a skeletal shell, stripped of plumbing, electricity, and its iconic clouded glass windows.

West, with the help of his wife Bianca Censori and a team of laborers, transformed the mansion, dismantling staircases, toppling chimneys, and replacing structures with unconventional features like a foam slide. The radical overhaul led to the property’s significant devaluation.

The home lost $14 million in value after West demolished its original design, as shown here.

West listed the home for $53 million in December 2023, already $4.5 million less than the purchase price. By April, the price dropped by $14 million. The property remains unsold, despite efforts by Jason Oppenheim from “Selling Sunset.”

Bianca Censori, who studied Architecture in the University of Melbourne, took part in the ‘renovation’ process.

Architect Kulapat Yantrasast noted, “To be honest, he did not like the house — he did not like the interior.” This drastic redesign aligns with West’s history of bold and unconventional choices, leaving the once-iconic property unrecognizable and devalued.
