Dries Van Noten has announced Julian Klausner, a longtime member of its design team, as the brand’s new creative director. Klausner, who joined the house in 2018 and previously led its womenswear division, will debut his first menswear collection in January as a lookbook.

The 33-year-old Klausner takes the reins following Dries Van Noten’s retirement in June after a 38-year career. Van Noten expressed confidence in Klausner’s vision, praising his creativity and deep understanding of the brand’s values, which he believes will ensure a seamless transition and continued success.

Klausner stated he aims to honor the brand’s legacy while introducing fresh ideas. “The incomparable legacy that Dries is leaving behind is monumental, serving as an endless source of precious inspiration,” he said. Known for his understated presence, Klausner graduated from La Cambre fashion design program in Brussels and worked at Maison Margiela before joining Dries Van Noten.

In a video on the brand’s website, Klausner reflected on his approach: “The last thing I wanted to do is imitate Dries. I want to push it forward and do something new out of it.” This sentiment reflects the label’s ethos of blending curiosity and inspiration, hallmarks of Van Noten’s legacy.
