Move over Lululemon, Berluti, and Ralph Lauren. The internet has chosen its new favorite national uniform for the Paris 2024 Olympics: Mongolia’s.

Featuring intricately embroidered vests, pleated robes, and accessories inspired by traditional attire, Mongolia’s opening and closing ceremony outfits have captivated social media since their unveiling last week.

Designed by Michel&Amazonka, an Ulaanbaatar-based label, the outfits blend Mongolian tradition and culture in a contemporary style. Female athletes will don ceremonial earrings and embroidered bags, while male flag-bearers will sport an archery hat, belt, and traditional boots.

The uniforms have garnered significant attention on social media, especially TikTok. Fashion and sport commentators have praised the designs, with style writer Ryan Yip stating in a video that “They just won the Olympics before it even started,” a video that has been viewed over 2 million times.

In another TikTok video viewed nearly 300,000 times, Australian user Bee Jamieson remarked, “The detailing is really beautiful… it looks like everything’s been really well thought out.” Popular sports creator geoff0w_ added, “These go ridiculously hard.”

On the brand’s Instagram page, users heaped further praise, calling the uniforms “the most beautiful” and “intricate and beautiful designs.”

Founded by sisters Michel Choigaalaa and Amazonka Choigaalaa, Michel&Amazonka previously designed Mongolia’s outfits for the Beijing 2022 Winter Olympics and Tokyo 2020 Summer Olympics, where the country won one silver and three bronze medals.

Mongolia has participated in every summer Olympics since 1964 except one. The country won its first and only gold medals in judo and boxing at the Beijing 2008 games.

This year, Mongolia is sending over 30 athletes to the Paris Olympics, which start on July 26. They will compete in nine different sports, including cycling, shooting, and wrestling.

Elsewhere at the Games, Berluti has designed France’s opening and closing ceremony uniforms, Ralph Lauren will dress Team USA as they have since 2008, and Great Britain has turned to menswear label Ben Sherman.
