The largest diamond discovered in over a century, a massive 2,492-carat stone, has been unearthed at Botswana’s Karowe Mine. This remarkable gem, the second-largest ever found, was presented at a ceremony by Botswana’s President Mokgweetsi Masisi, who marveled at its size and significance. Weighing nearly half a kilogram, the diamond has yet to be named or valued.

Lucara Diamond Corp., the Canadian company that operates the mine, revealed the find and highlighted the use of advanced X-ray technology to locate the high-quality stone intact. This discovery follows a series of other significant finds at the Karowe Mine, including the Sewelo and Lesedi La Rona diamonds, which fetched millions of dollars.
Botswana, the world’s second-largest producer of natural diamonds, continues to lead in uncovering the planet’s most significant stones. The newly discovered diamond, likely to make history, adds to the country’s impressive legacy in the diamond industry.
