Bentley has announced its first fully electric vehicle, a Luxury Urban SUV, slated for production at its revamped Crewe facility. The compact SUV, under five meters in length, will debut in 2026 and go on sale in 2027. However, the company’s full electrification timeline has been extended from 2030 to 2035 under its updated Beyond 100 Plus strategy.

CEO Frank-Steffen Walliser noted that the move to produce an EV is driven more by legislative pressures and competition than by current customer demand. While acknowledging limited interest among existing Bentley owners, Walliser emphasized targeting new customers seeking modern designs and advanced drivetrains. He expressed confidence that the electric SUV would win over traditional buyers once they experience its performance and versatility.

Designed for urban use, the Luxury Urban SUV promises practicality and ease of driving, while also offering a versatile range for city and long-distance travel. Walliser assured customers that the vehicle’s range and fast-charging capabilities would meet expectations for real-world conditions.

Bentley’s Crewe factory has undergone significant upgrades to support EV production, including a new paint shop and a focus on sustainable, low-energy practices. Despite the transition to electric power, the company will retain its hallmark craftsmanship and traditional materials to preserve the signature Bentley feel.

Currently, four models—the Continental GT, GTC, Flying Spur, and Bentayga—feature plug-in hybrid options as Bentley navigates a phased transition toward full electrification.
