High-end car manufacturers continually seek to add new features to their vehicles, and Bentley might be going tech-heavy with its latest innovation: an onboard drone.

Bentley is considering a drone that deploys from the hood and includes the Flying B badge, as revealed in a recent patent filing. This follows the trend set by the BYD YangWang U8 SUV, which features an optional drone stored on the roof.

Patent images show the drone featuring the Flying B badge and four small propellers. Bentley describes it as weighing no more than 250 grams (0.5 lbs) and charges it while docked beneath the hood. According to AutoGuide, the drone could find alternate routes through traffic, alert emergency services, lead the owner back to the vehicle, or even scout for parking spaces.

Bentley plans to design the drone in a ‘plinth’ or ‘coffin’ shape and add illumination to the launching pad, the drone, and the Flying B badge. The drone would be operated via the owner’s phone, tablet, or computer, or from the vehicle’s infotainment system.

While it’s uncertain when or if Bentley will bring this drone to market, the detailed patent suggests it might be a feature we see in the future.
