Mattel has introduced its first-ever Barbie Diwali doll ahead of the Hindu festival of lights, Diwali, which will be celebrated on November 1. This special edition doll, designed in collaboration with Indian fashion designer Anita Dongre, features traditional Indian attire including a lehenga, choli, and floral vest (koti), adorned with intricate patterns and cultural symbols like dahlias, jasmine, and Indian lotus flowers.

Dongre emphasized that the doll showcases both modern aesthetics and traditional craftsmanship. Accessories such as gold bangles and earrings represent the festival’s theme of light and strength. Mattel hopes to highlight India’s cultural heritage globally, while also continuing Barbie’s evolution towards greater diversity and inclusion.

Barbie, which recently celebrated its 65th anniversary, now offers dolls in 35 skin tones, 97 hairstyles, and 9 body types, reflecting the brand’s commitment to representing various cultural and racial backgrounds.
