David Duchovny is selling his longtime Malibu home for $12.5 million, nearly $8 million more than he paid in 2016. The X-Files and Californication actor purchased the original 1950s house in the gated Point Dume enclave and replaced it with a modern 3,580-square-foot residence he described as a “magical place.” Before buying, he had rented the property from X-Files creator Chris Carter while still based in New York, according to The Wall Street Journal.

Set on just over an acre, the home includes three bedrooms and five bathrooms with polished cement floors, clerestory windows, smart-home features, and pivoting glass doors that open to the outdoors. The great room combines a living area, dining space, and a custom kitchen with stone countertops and Miele and Fisher & Paykel appliances. The primary suite features a walk-in closet, steam shower, and clawfoot soaking tub, while two additional en-suite bedrooms have white oak floors and built-in closets. An office looks out on the landscaped grounds, which include a lap pool and sunken fire pit.

Also on the property is a detached gym and a converted train caboose that Duchovny used to write his 2021 novel Truly Like Lightning and record his Fail Better podcast. The caboose now serves as a guesthouse with a kitchen, bath, rooftop deck, and built-in dining nook. The sale also includes a deeded key to a nearby secluded beach. Listed by Chris Cortazzo of Compass, the home is being sold as Duchovny, now 64, shifts focus following his children becoming adults. He still owns properties in New York and Costa Rica and recently launched his Secrets Declassified docuseries on the History Channel.
