Once home to the legendary Ella Fitzgerald, a suite at the historic Le Provençal hotel in Cap d’Antibes has reappeared as a Riviera dream residence. The fourth-floor apartment where Fitzgerald once gave an impromptu performance from her window has been reimagined as a luxurious, fully furnished three-bedroom home—now on the market for $9.7 million (€7.75 million).
A Historic Icon Reborn into Private Residences
Le Provençal originally opened in the late 1920s and welcomed names like Pablo Picasso, Coco Chanel, and Fitzgerald herself, who first stayed there in 1960 during the inaugural Festival Jazz à Juan. After decades of closure, the hotel was acquired in 2014 by billionaire John Caudwell, who spearheaded a transformation that cost over $400 million and converted the building into 35 private residences.
According to Mansion Global, the show apartment inspired by Fitzgerald is the latest unveiled by Caudwell’s team. The design draws from the golden years of Riviera glamour while honoring Fitzgerald’s cultural and musical legacy through rich textures, gold accents, and vibrant tones.
Design That Pays Homage to the Queen of Jazz
Spanning 2,180 square feet with an additional 562 square feet of outdoor terraces, the residence offers panoramic views of the Mediterranean Sea. Inside, the apartment is styled with coffered ceilings, cream sofas, timber cabinetry, and a striking marble island in the kitchen. Miele appliances and a wooden dining table round out the space, while purple and dark gold accents echo Fitzgerald’s warm-yet-elevated style.
All three main living areas open to sun-drenched terraces. The primary and guest suites feature en suite marble bathrooms, walk-in dressing rooms, and terrace access. A third bedroom doubles as a study, offering flexibility in how the home functions.
Resort-Style Living With Jazz-Age Flair
Residents of Le Provençal gain access to a wide range of on-site amenities, including a cinema, health spa, fine dining restaurant, boutiques, and six acres of landscaped gardens. A 98-foot swimming pool sits near the beach club of the Hôtel Belles Rives, once a hangout for F. Scott Fitzgerald.
Ella Fitzgerald’s connection to the Riviera is well documented. She performed at Jazz à Juan in 1960, famously sang from her hotel window in 1963, and returned to the festival stage in 1964 and 1967. The newly finished apartment doesn’t just preserve that legacy—it gives it a new chapter. For those drawn to both history and high-end living, this home offers a rare intersection of both.
